Innovative Business Development: New Frontiers.  A Success!

Dear Colleagues,

Our Winter Conference took place in Flims from January 27 – 29, 2013. The conference was a success, with over 80 attendees and full program of educational and networking opportunities.

This year we explored Innovation – how business development professionals and their companies re-invent themselves to adapt to the changing industry environment and flourish. We focused on four particularly important topics for presentation and debate:

Creating Value: Keynote Speaker Ron Scott, CEO of Basilea, presented a case study in navigating the brave new life science world through strategic business development.

Innovative Deal Structures: Looked at current industry trends in dealmaking, practical advice for biotech-pharma deals and tips from health science, as presented by Sharon Finch, Medius Associates; Eva-Lotta Allan, Ablynx; and Kim Bill, Nestlé Health Science.

Alternative Ways of Funding Development: Addressed non-mainstream funding through spin-offs and public-private partnerships, as presented by Jürgen Langhärig, Bavarian Nordic; and Eric de la Fortelle, Delenex Therapeutics.

New Horizons for Business Differentiation: Explored growing life science businesses through differentiation, whether through cutting edge technology, diversification or niche products, as presented by Shaun Thaxter & Chris Chapleo, Reckitt Benckiser; Guy Greiveldinger, Novartis Molecular Diagnostics; Yves Decadt,Stragen; and Peter Keller, Selecta Biosciences.

This year, for the first time, the conference featured a professional development workshop on Innovating the Business Developer, led by Kathy Hartmann-Campbell, a senior coach who has worked for over two decades in life sciences.
